Rails is a beautiful framework with a ton of built-in “magic” that makes many processes much easier.
I am committed to creating useful applications for myself and users in my community. I studied classical and jazz music in college, and music remains as one of my great passions in life. Though I have been enrolled in a tech bootcamp, which is not directly related to music, I have continued to pursue music practice. Every week, I pick a jazz standard that I have not mastered, and I practice it so that I can play/sing the melody, play the chords, and create bass lines, all from memory. It gives me a chance to relax, taking a break from learning code, while also continuing my pursuit of musical study.
I had been wracking my brain trying to come up with an idea for my first portfolio project. I wanted the project to be something that I personally would use regularly. I have an active interest in personal finance and economics, and I often come across terms that are either misleading in their name, or whose definitions are generally convoluted. Whenever I come across these terms, I typically will search it on the Dictionary of Financial Terms on Investopedia. Investopedia’s site is great for thorough explanations of a given term, but as an introduction to a topic, the given information can be overwhelming. Furthermore, the site sometimes loads longer than desired, and is often full of unwanted ads.
